Combining her experience as a therapist and counselor at The Life Center in Annapolis with her training at Loyola University in the integration of spirituality and psychology, she sees a broad spectrum of clients. She is trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy and Gottman Couples Therapy, and uses it with couples to help them escape self-defeating relationship patterns. She also helps individuals re-engage with life following loss, disappointing relationships, and the after-effects of inadequate or neglectful parenting. With a background in military service, business, and healthcare, she combines unique perspectives and real-world experience in her professional approach.
If you want to include your spiritual and/or religious concerns in your work together, her training in pastoral counseling makes her uniquely positioned to assist you. Regardless of your particular faith beliefs or spirituality, she welcomes this added dimension saying, "This is not about my spiritual or religious beliefs, but about yours."
Dr. Ruth's therapeutic approach provides support and practical feedback to help you succeed in making changes that life often challenges us to make. Her style is warm and her approach is emotionally-focused, cognitive behavioral, and attachment-oriented allowing her to provide a highly personalized perspective tailored to you. With compassion and understanding, she works with you to build on your strengths so you can achieve the goals you set together.
In addition to being a prominent therapist and counselor, Dr. Ruth is an affiliate faculty member at Loyola University Maryland as well as an experienced clinical supervisor of counseling students and graduates working toward licensure. As a mentor to interns and new counselors, she emphasizes authenticity, compassion, and commitment to excellence in the counseling profession.
